HP Photosmart A616 printer problem?

I know the cartridge has ink left because I just put it in recently but when I turn the printer on it says ';cartridge failed. please replace cartridge'; I've tried turning it on and off and that didnt work. Then I found an old empty cartridge in my desk and replaced it and it worked, but since theres no ink left in that old cartridge i cant use it. I need to print a picture ASAP though for a birthday present! Help!!HP Photosmart A616 printer problem?
I would look into firmware downloads online. People do not realize that most consumer based electronics are programmed through the firmware to fail after a few years. This leads most consumers to buy new electronics and boosts sales for the manufacturer. Also, lets say there is a video camera you want to buy but the one with all of the bells and whistles is a little over your budget. The cheaper of the two has all of the same physical components but it is internally programmed through the firmware to not allow use of the functions that are include with the more expensive model. This can be bypassed by saving read only upgraded firmware files to an sd card and loading it onto your camera. Now, use you imagination. This is true for 99.9% of modern consumer based electronics. If you have any other questions, let me know. ex USN special electronics and computer engineer.HP Photosmart A616 printer problem?
Hello --

As I understand the problem ... it relates to the cartridge having its own electronics (the little gold pins that you aren't supposed to touch).

The electronics in the cartridge sometimes fail ... and the machine wont ';see'; the cartridge correctly. The old cartridge without ink has ';good'; electronics -- the one that failed doesn't.

The good news is that there is nothing wrong with your printer ... the bad news is that ther bad cartridge won't work.

I would try as an experiment taking the cartridge that works in for a re-fill -- see if it will work.

Else just buy a new cartridge ...

Hope that helps --

Bill
You turn on your printer and open the cover,

and try to take out your cartridge (both) and put it back at the same time...( do the same thing about 3 to 4 )

and then close back cover try and see!

If cannot, you try to turn off your printer and turn on back!

If still cannot, maybe you should buy a new cartridge...

GOOD LUCK!!!
